History Timeline

Explore the key milestones and achievements that have shaped JATS into the leading aviation training provider it is today. From our humble beginnings to our global presence, each step in our history reflects our commitment to excellence and innovation in aviation training.

1972

originally founded as RJ’s Training Centre in providing training on B707 and  B727;

1987

An L1011 Full Flight Simulator was introduced into service.

1989

Full Motion Flight Simulators for Airbus A310 & A320 have been installed at Queen Alia International Airport.

1990 - 1992

  • The company relocated to Queen Alia International Airport to meet the increasing demand for training of pilots and cabin crew.
  • A320/ A310/ L1011 Motion Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer (CEET) has been installed at Queen Alia International Airport.

2000

With the vision of privatization of Royal Jordanian supporting services sections, the company was separated and became a new entity under the name JATS.

2005

A340 / A330 Door Trainer was purchased from TFC and installed at JATS/QAIA.

2006

June: New Head Office with state of the art classrooms facilities were established at JATS/QAIA.

August: Eastern Investment Group Holding acquired 80% of JATS in a privatization scheme of Royal Jordanian with a total of $14.7 million paid through a debt swap arrangement with the British government; RJ retained 20%.

October: an extensive refurbishment accomplished at the whole facilities; interior and exterior.

2007

  • JATS launched Thales A320-200 Full Flight Simulator - the first of its kind worldwide at the time - under the patronage of HRH Prince Faisal Ben Al Hussein.
  • A new fire trainer from Fire Instructor Training Products (FITP) that is designed and developed for the training of Airplane Flight Crews has been installed to enhance training of In- Flight cabin crew training.

2008

  • A Boeing B727 / B737 Door Trainer has been acquired with an evacuation slide to the door area for the practical application of emergency evacuation.
  • JATS was awarded a TRTO certificate as a Type Rating Training Organization (TRTO) in accordance with JAR FCL 1 requirements.
  • A new A320 THALES Formation System Trainer (TFST) from THALES has been installed at JATS.

2009

  • Completed successfully all requirements for the EASA-147 approval for A318/A319/A320/A321 (B1+B2) Line & Base Mechanical / Electrical / Avionics.
  • Upgraded the visual system for both THOMSON A320 – 200 and A310 – 300 Simulators.
  • Upgraded the A320 THALES Formation System Trainer (TFST).

2010

  • Extensive refurbishment was accomplished on our facilities at Marka Airport.
  • Installation of the Boeing B767 – 300 ER FFS Simulator at JATS/Marka Airport Branch and B767 – 300 EET Door Trainer at JATS/QAIA.
  • Completed all requirements for the EASA 147 Audit for the Maintenance Courses: (1) A318/A319/A320/A321 (CFM565)/ A319/A320/A321 (IAE V2500) and (2) A340 (CFM56).
  • New state-of-the-art building with full facilities was built at JATS/QAIA and ready for housing the B737-800NG and Embraer 170/190 FFS Simulators.

2011

  • B737-800NG and Embraer 170/190 Full Flight Simulators launched at JATS/QAIA under the patronage of HRH prince Faisal Ben Al Hussein.
  • Completed all requirements for EASA -147 audit for A330 (GE    CF6), (PW4000) and (RR Trent) (B1T1+B2T2) Maintenance Courses.

2012

  • Started the EASA FSTD certification replacing old JAR regulations.
  • Installed the new Embraer Door Trainer from TFC.

2014 / 2015

  • Obtained EASA 147 Approval for Embraer 170/190.
  • Obtained EASA 147 Practical Approval for A320, A330, A340 and Embraer 170/190.

2016

June: According to EU Regulation 1332/2011, JATS upgraded its A320 and B737NG Simulators to TCAS 7.1.

2017

  • August: An agreement was signed between JATS and L-3 Commercial Training Solution to upgrade the current A320 Thales FSTD from Standard 1.4 to Standard 2.0 CEO.
  • September: Launched New Solar Panel System at JATS/QAIA WITH 1.5 MW to cover 80% of JATS needs.
  • B767-300 FFS phased out and sold; JATS closed its Offices and branch at Marka Airport and moved completely to JATS/QAIA.
  • According to EU Regulation 1332/2011, JATS upgraded its Embraer 170/190 Simulator to TCAS 7.1.

2018

September: B737-NG FFS sold out.

October:  L3 started the implementation of the Upgrade of A320 Thales FSTD to be with the latest Airbus standard 2.0 CEO including the UPRT Capabilities.

2019

March: EASA First Approved A320-200 FFS Std.2.0 at JATS based on EASA CS-FSTD (A) Issue 2 as the Primary Reference.

2020

Awarded the Approval for Distance Learning (DSL) for EASA 147 Courses from EASA & JCARC.

2021

July: Started the UPRT update on our Embraer 170/190 FSTD to meet the latest EASA requirements.

August / September: JATS' E170 / E190 Simulator was ready and Approved by JCARC and EASA for UPRT Training.

December: Embraer 170/190 FSTD sold out to another FSTD Operator and dismantled.

2022

February: obtained IATA Authorized Training Center (ATC) authorization.

2023

May: JATS Co-owned by Royal Jordanian Airways.

2024

  • April, Obtaining DG Approval from CARC.
  • June, Obtaining Security Approval from CARC.
  • October, Obtaining B787 Type Rating Training Approval for Pilot from CARC & Obtaining B787, Embraer E1 & E2, A320 (CEO & NEO) under Part 147 from CARC.

2025

  • January, Obtaining B787 and Embraer E2 under Part 147 from EASA.
  • February, Obtaining Embraer E2 Type Rating Training Approval for Pilot Training from CARC. Approving JATS state of art Embraer E2 FSTD from EASA & CARC.
